Social Anxiety

People who struggle with social anxiety have a lot more inner problems to dealwith than what appears on the surface. The anxiousness that is experienced in social situations is really just the tip of the iceberg. These individuals (and there are quite a few million of them) are chock-full of complex emotions. What's really happening is an underlying problem (or set of problems rather) that need to be dealt with in order to get to the bottom of the social anxiety.

As someone who struggles with anxiety in social situations, you're probably all
too familiar with self-doubt. First, you must ask yourself what is bothering you
so much. In most cases, it's something that has to do with the individual themselves,
such as a weight issue or some type of personality or physical quirk that they
are afraid everyone will notice. Most people do not pay attention to the small things
because they are too busy worrying with what everyone else thinks of them. Chances are that the microscopic quirk you're so concerned with doesn't even matter in the eyes of everyone else. Getting over social anxiety is all about accepting yourself just the way you are.

It's an understatement to suggest that social-anxiety sufferers struggle with low
self-confidence. Their confidence levels are beyond low. They have no faith in
themselves whatsoever, which is why they freak out around other people. They are
afraid of something that isn't going to happen and does not even exist. All of
the thoughts that have are simply thoughts they've mustered from their own lack
of self-confidence. These negative beliefs that they've developed come from the
way they see themselves, not the way everyone else sees them. In order to get passed the anxiety you experience in social settings is to understand why you feel so uneasy around other people. What about people in general makes you so nervous?

Symptoms of social anxiety include emotional distress in social settings, fear of
being made fun of around people, being watched while doing something, being introduced to new people, having to speak in public, fear of interpersonal relationships, and all other social encounters. The reason for these difficulties is mainly due to a negative view of oneself. There are also physical symptoms associated with this disorder including nausea, excessive sweating, twitching, panic attacks, difficulty swallowing, and blushing to name a few.

Everyone reacts to social anxiety in a different way. Some people force themselves into social situations and still get nervous no matter how hard they try, while others keep themselves locked inside their homes and never go anywhere unless they have to. Social anxiety is considered one of the most misunderstood and difficult illnesses to live with. Seeking help whether it be in the form of therapy, self-help, or professional medical help is the only way to effectively cope with this illness.
