Looking for Natural relief for Anxiety/Panic Attacks?

January 9th, 2010

Going through a very, very, rough time right now and am having severe anxiety. Very close to a panic attack and I’m scared. My DR will not prescribed anything other than Prozac and that isn’t helping although taken for several years. Looking for something natural, (I will continue with Prozac) it’s the only way I can do this.

I heard that ginseng works well for mood enhancement, maybe it will work for your anxiety. Be careful with the Prozac! Ask your doctor about Zoloft. It doesn`t have as many side effects and seems to work better. There must be a reason your doc won`t try anything else. Find another doc!

    Oh dear.

Well, remember I am not a doctor. But I have heard that St. John’s Wart is supposed to help with this kind of thing. And chamomile and Valerian root are soothing. So is lavender, or lavender oil.

Talk with an experienced herbalist about this.

    Good luck!

Valerian root is very calming. It smells and tastes absolutely horrid. Don’t take the tea; hold your nose and take the capsule.

You can find it at any health food store.

I’d be careful with taking any natural substances while you are on Prozac - there could be some bad interactions. Make sure you speak with your Pharmacist before taking any. Also, if Prozac isn’t helping you and your doctor won’t prescribe anything else (seems fishy to me) then maybe it is time to get a second opinion or switch doctors altogether.

I have been reading on this lately. I has been popping up in some of my health mags and in some of my web research.

You need to try taking Magnesium. Stress messes up the bodys ability to absorb vitamins and minerals properly and it messes with your enzymes in your intestinal tract that help break down your food. So in other words, you eat but do not get the full nutrients of the food and also the body becomes more acidic. It is a vicious cycle and the body is starving.
Stress is the biggest cause of this problem.
Since trying this natural treatment has no bad side effects like medications it is worth a try.
Also do your own research on the internet on:
    1. transdermal magnesium therapy
    2. ph balance, body or acidic body

    Look for products:
    1. enzymes (all types) capsule or powder
    2. magnesium (get required mg)
    3. alkalai supplements (capsules or powder or liquid)
    4. green foods powder (like Green Magma or Green Balance)

If you take all three of these as directed on the bottles I bet you will notice a huge difference and the anxiety may even go away. You have to give it at least a month to notice a difference. This wont be that hard to take as you will take them together as directed. You will certainly feel better and it will be worth the cost of the products to balance you system.

Is your family dr prescribing prozac or is it a mental health professional? I find it odd that they won’t change your meds. I would seek a second opinion from another dr, preferably someone in the mental health field.

I don’t suggest taking any "home remedies" as you don’t know what kind of interaction they will have with the prozac!

My suggestion is to try deep breathing when your feeling anxious. Just breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. And try not to think about how anxious you are, you would be surprised how easily your brain can make you think that it is worse than it actually is! I cant promis that this will work for you because it doesn’t work for everyone. I’m 18 and I’ve had Anxiety disorder since I was 13. This did not work for me right away either so you may have to give it a couple of tries and if its not working simply try something else. I really hope this helps you and please dont give up. I can promis that there is something out there that can help.
