Suffering
from agoraphobia is not a pleasant experience. In fact, it's completely
horrific in every sense of the word. People who have this condition are
afraid of being put in situations where they might experience bodily
complications. They will completely
avoid
anything, place, or person that they think will make them anxious. The
reason? They fear they will not be able to escape.
Agoraphobia-sufferers
are afraid of losing control of their bodily functions
in public (it sounds strange, but it's a reality for people with
this condition), choking on their food, passing out, shaking
uncontrollable, having a heart attack, and other things that will
probably never happen.
|
Deep down,
the sufferer knows that this is probably not going to happen, but they
are so blinded by their fear that they cannot see anything else. There
are many individuals with this disease who live normal lives and only
avoid situations to a certain degree. When they are put in an
uncomfortable situation, they freak out, but no one usually notices.
Instead, they suffer through the experience, and come out completely
intact. |

Fortunately, only less than one percent of the population
suffers from agoraphobia. In most cases, people will have suffered from
at least one severe tragic event before developing agoraphobia. This
condition usually strikes between the ages of 20 and 25. When a person
even thinks about being put in a position where they may not be able to
escape from an anxiety attack, they will start to feel anxious. Some
people might even have another friend or family member accompany them
when they go places just to feel safe and secure. In more severe cases,
people with agoraphobia will not leave their homes.
It's obvious that agoraphobia can have a potentially disastrous effect
on a person's entire life. From relationships to career, everything can
suffer. Treatment usually takes on the form of prescription medication,
therapy, and hospitalization. Finding the right type of treatment may
take some time as everyone will not respond the exact same to each
treatment option.
More difficult cases where the individual is much more consumed by the
illness may take years to treat. Unfortunately, some people never
recover from agoraphobia, but this is due to their intense fear of
facing situations that make them uncomfortable.Regardless of how severe
your disorder is or what type of treatment plan you undergo, you will
eventually have to face your fears. It's one of the most effective ways
to overcome your illness. Facing your fears is much easier when
undergoing some sort of treatment plan as it provides you with the
necessary confidence to carry out your goals.
People who suffer from agoraphobia should realize that the chances of
their nervous system
shutting down on them, dying from a heart attack, or suffering from any
other sort of panic-like
symptom is very rare and isn't likely to happen. Other forms of
treatment include self-help books and alternative medication. What's
most important is that the individual seek help as soon as possible to
avoid anymore suffering. To learn more about a cure for
